About Headstart Christian Pre-Primary School In Randburg
Headstart Pre-Primary School in Randburg is a parallel medium school where English and Afrikaans are used in the classroom. Our goal is to foster full bilingualism in children by encouraging them to actively speak and practice both languages at school, at home, and during social interactions. Located in Cresta’s convenient and central area, we proudly serve nearby neighbourhoods, including Randburg, Northcliff, Linden, Greenside, Craighall, and the surrounding areas.
OUR APPROACH AS A LEADING PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOL IN RANDBURG
At Headstart, we use a very special and holistic curriculum that focuses on every child as a unique individual, simply needing the right environment, love and support to shine! Our beautiful school is where children can explore and use their imagination. Playing is Learning. Our curriculum is an accumulation of the outstanding programmes, curriculums and resources our founder has come across over 27 years of teaching. It is therefore customized to develop the whole child in all nine areas of intelligence.
Headstart also prides itself in being a Christ Centred school, and we have woven it into everything we do. Children are taught that they were created for a special purpose and have unique gifts and talents. Their true identity is found in Christ; we give him glory in all we do.
We believe that early intervention is critical, and to give each child the best possible “head start”, we are proud and privileged to have an onsite therapy centre called Take Heart. This precious resource offers parents help and guidance through workshops, free screenings, and occupational and speech therapy for children who need it. Our multi-disciplinary team assists teachers with classroom ideas and seminars about specific topics. Areas of concern can be addressed early on, and early intervention saves families so much heartache when a child’s self-esteem suffers unnecessarily.

Headstart Pre-Primary School have a highly qualified, exceptional, and passionate team with a combined teaching experience of over 30 years. Each team member brings unique expertise to create a dynamic learning environment—including teaching and remedial education, psychology, and counselling qualifications.
Our dedicated team is headed up by Madelein (principal) and supported by Freda Louw, Charmaine van der Westhuizen, Windy Mogale (assistant), and Daniel Mataruka (groundsmen &security), who assists throughout the week. Together, we are committed to providing your child with the best possible care and education.
At Headstart, we offer two classes, with a maximum of twelve children per class. Classes are carefully divided based on the age of the children in years and months, recognizing the significance of even six months in their development.
We understand the importance of preparing children for English primary schools, so we have a special provision in place. Children attending English primary schools will be grouped in the foundation English group. They will join the grade R’s daily as we offer an enriching English language program. It’s important to note that our founder, Madelein, personally coordinates and designs a curriculum tailored to each age group’s needs.
To ensure a well-rounded educational experience, we plan weekly activities and set objectives during our team meetings. These meetings also serve as a platform to discuss each child’s progress and address any specific needs they may have.

Message From Our Founder & Principal – Madelein Tredoux
Welcome to Headstart, where we aim to create something extraordinary and unique for your precious children. Headstart was born in 1997, flowing from the sincere desire to give my daughter an exceptional preschool where children are nurtured and mentored. As a parent, I founded Headstart with a deep-rooted desire to provide an excellent learning environment that will forever hold a special place in your child’s heart, becoming an extension of their home.
Over the past twenty-six years, my journey has been filled with excitement and inspiration as I discovered the incredible potential of toddlers. They are truly remarkable individuals, each with their own unique abilities waiting to be unleashed.
My educational background includes a B.A.Ed. Degree obtained in 1992, followed by enrolment at the “Foundation for Christ-Centred Education” in Stellenbosch. I focused on Christian education, Child Psychology, and remedial teaching there. In 1993, I was entrusted with the role of principal of a welfare nursery school facing numerous social challenges. This experience taught me invaluable lessons in supporting children who have endured trauma.
I pursued additional certifications and courses to continue my personal growth and development dedication. These encompassed a wide range of subjects, such as Brain-gym, Audiblox, music for preschoolers, bullying prevention, play therapy, perceptual development, and early literacy. Headstart is not just a career for me; it is a calling from the Father’s heart. I stand in awe daily, feeling privileged to be an instrument of change during these crucial years of child development.
Every toddler must know that God’s love remains constant in our rapidly changing world. At the same time, we must adapt and evolve our approach to ensure optimal development and nurture their emotional intelligence. By fostering a sense of emotional and mental security, coupled with the knowledge that they are cherished as King’s children, our toddlers can fearlessly embark on their journey to “big school.” With Jesus by their side, challenges become growth opportunities. This is the distinctive “edge” we strive to provide at Headstart.
At Headstart Pre-Primary, our ultimate goal is to create an environment where children feel emotionally secure, experience spiritual growth, and confidently embrace their identity as Kingdom Kids. With God’s guidance, we believe that any challenge can be conquered, enabling our little ones to face “big school” without fear.
